Counselor's Corner
Dear Ordway Families,

This month, our students have been learning about gratitude through our CharacterStrong curriculum. It’s easy to notice things that are different or things we don’t like—our brains are naturally wired to focus on the negative. However, when we learn to notice and appreciate the positive aspects of our lives and others, practicing gratitude can greatly enhance our well-being and happiness.

November is also a time when our students actively express gratitude toward their community. Many students will be writing letters, notes, or drawing pictures to include in food packages delivered to homebound residents over the Thanksgiving holidays. Additionally, our annual condiments collection for Helpline House (Tomorrow!) gives students an opportunity to give back to an organization that has supported the Bainbridge community for many years.

For Veterans Day, our fourth-grade student council members planned an assembly to express gratitude and honor those who have served in the armed forces. Their efforts reflect the spirit of appreciation we strive to foster at Ordway.

I feel so grateful to work with such an incredible staff, supportive parents, and wonderful students in our Ordway community. Wishing you all a fantastic November!

Sincerely,
Janette Dodge
Ordway Counselor

Parade of Condiments - Tomorrow 11/13
As you are out and about this weekend please consider purchasing condiment items to donate to Helpline House for our Parade of Condiments - Construction Zone Style being held at 9:30 am Wednesday November 13, 2024.

The parade will look a little different this year! This year we have a BISD school bus parked outside the building and children will leave their donations in boxes in front of the bus. Students will return to class while parent volunteers will ride the bus and unload the donations at Helpline House.

We would love your help that day! Volunteers Sign-up HERE !

Parent volunteers can:
  1. Help students get donations into backpacks
  2. Help students get their donations out of backpacks into boxes
  3. Load boxes onto the bus
  4. Ride the bus to Helpline House
  5. Unload boxes from the bus at Helpline House
Thank you for supporting our food drive to Helpline House.

Tardy Updates
Hooray - Madison Avenue in front of Ordway is finally paved!!! I never thought I would be so grateful for a road project to be complete - please know how grateful we all are for your patience during this project. We are now reinstating our tardy ‘late to school’ monitoring of students that is recorded in Skyward.  The late bell rings at 7:50 - please note that your child will be marked tardy if arrival at school is after 7:50.

Book Exchange
Please send any gently used or new children’s books to the Ordway Library. We need hardcover or paperback novels; fiction, non-fiction, and picture books. The 4th-grade student council will wrap up all the books and conduct a whole school Mystery Book Exchange in December. This project is student-led and they are excited to start wrapping the books. This is a great time to clean bookshelves and ask neighbors and friends for books. We will need close to 400 children’s books. Thank you for your support!
