ART Updates

Recently Ordway students have focused on using their imaginations to create vivid creatures and animals. Kindergarteners and first graders painted alligators and crabs, drew three-part exquisite corpses, and started dog paintings inspired by the artist George Rodrigue. Second graders have created butterflies and started egg carton animals. Third graders learned about the fibonacci sequence and drew dragons using either their own design or a fibonacci spiral for their composition. Fourth graders carved linoleum blocks and printed animals or creatures from popular culture. It has been amazing to see the students’ confidence grow as they observe closely, add intricate details and make their creatures come alive!

Sincerely,
Jill Queen

PTO Events

The Stuffie Sleepover was a huge success: Here's a LINK to the evenings shenanigans in case you missed it!

  • Sign-ups are now open for Ordway's 3rd and 4th Grade after-school Garden Club. Sign Up HERE.
  • Local author, Nora Nickum, will be visiting Ordway on Friday, April 17th with her new children’s book, Twelve Daring Grays! To receive a signed copy of her book before her visit. Pre-order HERE.
  • Science and Maker Faire will be held on Thursday, April 23rd.

What is the Science & Maker Faire?
The Ordway Science & Maker Faire is an optional event for students to showcase either a science experiment or something they've made. Some examples include baking a cake and showing the steps, creating a volcano and explaining how it works, displaying a piece of art and sharing the inspiration. Anything goes! It is a fun way for kids to share their creativity and passion for science.

How to participate?
The PTO will provide complimentary tri-fold boards for each student to display their work. During the school day on April 23rd, each class will visit the gym to view the projects. Those who participate will have a short interview with a volunteer explaining their project and what inspired them. Students enjoy showing off their own projects as well as seeing what their peers have created. During the evening, families are invited to come to the gym and tour all the projects!

Supporting Our Students: Kids’ Pantry During Spring Break

As we near Spring Break, we want to ensure every student in our community stays fueled and ready for fun! Helpline House, in partnership with Bainbridge Island Rotary, is proud to offer the Kids’ Pantry program to provide supplemental groceries for local families.

Pick-Up Information:
If your family could benefit from extra groceries during the break, you can stop by for a pick-up:
  • Location: Helpline House | 901 Hildebrand Ln NE
  • Dates: Monday – Friday (April 6-10)
  • Time: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Delivery Options:
We know that work schedules and transportation can sometimes make it difficult to get to Helpline House. If you are unable to make it during pick-up hours, Rotary volunteers are available to deliver groceries directly to your home.

To Register for Delivery: Please contact Sarah Frost sfrost@bisd303.org to coordinate a drop-off time that works for your family.

lost and found

Lost and Found Reminder!

Cold mornings and warmer afternoons mean that we have a growing lost and found as children shed their layers at recess.
The best way to ensure your valuable coats, jackets, sweatshirts and hats get back to your child is to label them!

PTO will clean out the Lost and Found on Friday 4/3 before Spring Break.
