Dear Ordway Families,
I hope this newsletter finds you well. It was such a pleasure to see so many parents attend Back-to-School-Night and especially wonderful to meet our new parents. Teachers shared what a positive evening it was and I wish to express my gratitude for your continued support of our school and staff - it means a great deal to all of us!
As we inch closer to October, our children are happy and showing great enthusiasm for learning. They are also well-familiar with school routines - even in long lines to purchase Ms. Elizabeth’s delicious pizza on Fridays! Thank you to Mrs. Nelson, our wonderful librarian, for providing September/October resources for Hispanic Heritage month - please see books here Hispanic Heritage Month Booklist. Additionally our staff is preparing traditional fall activities for Unity Day to celebrate kindness, acceptance and inclusion. With a busy month ahead, be sure to read through this newsletter for key dates.
Best, Debra

Dear Ordway Parents/Guardians of Students in Grades K, 1, 2 and 3. Our School Nurse will be conducting the annual Health Screenings of Vision and Hearing for grades K, 1, 2, & 3 on Monday and Tuesday, October 16th, and 17th, 2023. The intent of this screening is to recognize any obvious visual or auditory deficits which could have an impact on your child's ability to learn in school. You will receive written results of your child's screening. A separate notification letter will be sent to parents if the results determine that a follow-up visit to your child’s health care provider is recommended. If your child wears glasses, please make sure that they bring them to school on October 16th and 17th for their screening. If you DO NOT want your child screened, please let our school nurse, Carol Beard, know as soon as possible. While 4th grade students are not required to be included in the health screening sessions, they can be screened by parent request – just let the nurse know if you would like your student screened. Nurse Carol welcomes any questions you may have regarding the screening process and/or your child’s screening results. Please contact her on 206-780-1453 or at cbeard@bisd303.org
PTO has been busy preparing community events for our school
Parent Night Out at Sister’s Cider this Thursday, Sept. 28 from 5-7 p.m. Children of all ages are welcome. A portion of all cider sales during Ordway‘s family night (5-7 p.m.) will be donated to Ordway's PTO, so please come out to support our school at our generous, community-minded Sisters' Cider House.
Our fundraiser kicked off at Back to School Night. It’s time to go “All in for Otters”, as our Ordway community comes together to support our school, staff and students! With your support, the Ordway PTO funds schoolwide and individual classroom needs. Your contributions support assemblies, field trips, teacher appreciation, classroom grants for materials and supplies, and much more! Don’t forget to get those donations in! https://www.mightycause.com/story/Ordwayotters2023 .Thank you to all those who have already donated - we appreciate you!

Thank you to Mrs. Rodriguez for helping Mrs. Nelson paint names on the outside of new Ordway cloth book bags. These bags are to carry Ordway library books to and from home.
Please only have your student use this book bag for Ordway school library books. The hope is that the bags will last for the entire Ordway experience. Each new school year, students will be allowed to paint a little extra on their bags. After 4th grade, students can use the bag any way they wish.
Students should bring their books and bags back to school the day before their assigned library class visit or on the actual day.- See the schedule below
