Wednesday is Unity Day at Ordway: Wear Orange! Student will participate in a School wide art project and a school-wide photo later in the day.
Unity Day, started by PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center as the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month continues to grow every year as a tangible representation of the universal message that our society wants to promote kindness, acceptance and inclusion to prevent bullying.
On the third Wednesday of October, plan to support the event by participating in the simple call to action—wear and share the color orange.
Why unity? For years, bullying was justified with expressions such as, “Bullying is a natural part of childhood,” “Bullying makes kids tougher,” or “Bullying is a rite of passage.” The goal of Unity Day is to bring together youth, parents, educators, businesses, and community members across the nation to emphasize the message that bullying is not acceptable, and that all students deserve to be safe in school, online, and in the community.
Why the color orange? Unity Day is celebrated in October, and orange is a color commonly identified with the month and the autumn season. It is also a color that is associated with safety and visibility. It is a color described as warm and inviting, and its vibrancy makes an impactful statement.
Why just a day? The event provides a catalyst for everyone to come together with a visual statement that our actions matter not only on one day, but every day.

Sometimes accidents happen
With the start of rainy weather, we’d like to remind you to pack an extra change of clothes for your child. Children can and do get wet at recess but we have a limited supply of clothes in the office for them to change into. Sometimes children have bathroom accidents at school as well so a change of clothes is necessary. In both cases, help them feel more comfortable and send a change of clothes along with them to school.
Label your clothing and rain gear
We also ask that you label sweatshirts and jackets. Our lost and found is full already and we’d love to be able to reconnect your child with their misplaced gear. Sharpies are a great option as are purchased clothing stickers from online vendors. Save yourself time and money and label their gear.

School Directory - a tool for families to connect
|
The school directory is found in Skyward and you Opt-In in order to share your contact information with other families. So if a family would like to reach out to you about a birthday party or play date - this is where they go to find how to contact you. The Ordway office cannot release your information. If this is of interest to your family and you haven’t done so, below is a guide on how to do this.
This is not a requirement, but not everyone understands that this is a choice your family has to make. Families are defaulted out, until they opt-in during the ABC process. So if you would like to have your contact information available in the student directory on Skyward Family Access, for other families to see please refer to the attached tutorial.
