Hello Families of Ordway Musicians,

The year has started with such fun in the music room, and I love having all the familiar faces back! Students started the year with a review of our music fundamentals for each grade level. All students will focus more on our solfege syllables (do, re, mi...) which help us to sight-read musical intervals. The goal for music is that students can sight-read a single line of music using their rhythm and solfege syllables with only the starting pitch given when they leave Ordway. It's a challenge that I know they will rise to!

We've started something new this year for 1st–4th grade called "Composer of the Month." Our first composer was Hildegard von Bingen for October. Ask your student what they can tell you about Hildegard—she was quite a fascinating woman and was one of the very first composers we know something about. She was literally the beginning of music!

Kindergarteners are starting their musical journey with me through music games, rhythm instruments, and even some melodic instruments like xylophones. We've had fun with Pumpkin Bones this month and the game Pass the Pumpkin. Third and fourth graders are gearing up to sing at the Veterans Day Assembly, and all students will begin working on their songs for our Winter Sing-Along in December.
Stay tuned for more exciting musical happenings this year!
Sincerely,
Wendi Olinger

Free & Reduced Lunch

Dear Families,

Financial assistance for school breakfast and lunch can take place at any point during the school year. Assistance can be temporary or long term. For example, if your situation changes and your family would now benefit from assistance, please also know it is confidential - while principal, counselor and office manager are aware, no other staff are included in that information. Your child paying in the lunch line or joining us for breakfast is completely unknown who is or is not receiving assistance.
Information and applications are available HERE. (English and Spanish are available) Paper applications are also available in the school office.

Best,
Debra Dunn

Veterans Day Assembly - Nov 7

Friday November 7th Ordway will honor our Veterans at an all school Veterans Assembly. Veterans and Active duty personnel who are friends or family of Ordway students are invited to join us from 8:30 - 8:50.

We are also creating our Veteran's Wall of Honor, Veterans STARS were sent home last week. Return a star and we'll place it on our Wall of Honor.
