STEM News

Dear Ordway Families,

Ordway STEM students have been actively participating and critically thinking in small groups to solve real world challenges! We are working on perseverance and problem solving!

  • Kindergarten finished an exciting unit on coding with an introduction to block coding with a Code & Go Mouse and designing a maze for this mouse. Then, they'll move on to exploring Forces and Motion projects with pushes and pulls.
  • 1st Grade completed a Coding unit and are working together to use Lego BricQ kits to build dog parks and dance studios. Next, the students will be working with Squishy Circuits. (Thanks Ordway PTO for these LEGO kits!)
  • 2nd Grade continues to rotate through LEGO SPIKE, Scratch, and LEGO WeDo 2.0. This Spring, they’ll program Indi robot cars on special mats. (Thanks to the generosity of Navy’s SWFPAC for the SPIKE kits, Bolt+, Indi’s and Indi mats!)
  • 3rd Grade created Simple Machines by building wheels and axles, levers, and pulleys. Following this unit, they are building Bristle Bots and solving issues with earthquakes in “Shake Things Up”.
  • 4th Grade is studying a Makey Makey unit with circuits. They will be working on switches to creatively build a video game controller to use on a variety of games.

Please ask your child about their projects — they have so much to share from their group about engineering!

Sincerely,
Jocelyn Jablonski, STEM Teacher (K–4)

Attendance Updates

This spring, our schools are focusing on “Spring Into Attendance”—a positive reminder that growth happens when students show up. Each day in school helps students build skills, strengthen connections, and continue blooming academically and socially.

Just like plants need consistent care to grow, students thrive with consistent attendance. Arriving at school on time and ready to start the day is just as important, helping students begin the morning with their classmates and not miss important learning time. Showing up each day and being on time supports learning, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging.

Together, we can help our students grow, learn, and bloom this spring! 🌱

sleepover

Ordway Stuffie Sleepover - PTO Fundraiser

Ever wonder what happens when a bunch of stuffed animals spend the night together in the Ordway Library? Sign up for the Stuffie Sleepover and find out! Students are invited to bring one stuffie to school with them on Wednesday, March 25th.

On this day, the PTO will collect each participant's stuffie, permission slip, and $10 fee (if you haven't paid online). Please contact Ordway Office Manager Sarah Dunstan for scholarships.

The night of the 25th, we will have several adult chaperones snapping photos and engaging the stuffies in fun activities! Families will be given a link to view these photos throughout the evening. Stuffies will be returned to their student the following day to take home.

Visit the link for more information about this event and check out photos from other stuffie sleepover events happening around the country!
