My name is Randy Komatsu, and I’m so happy to be a 1st grade teacher at Ordway.
I grew up in Hawaii, graduating from the University of Hawaii with my Bachelor of Education (Elementary). I moved to Bainbridge Island in 2005. I obtained my Master's in Education (Science Education) from Lesley University.
This is my second year teaching at Ordway. I was a Para Educator and a substitute teacher in the district and a 4th grade teacher last year. I was at IslandWood, an Environmental Education Center, for 12 years as a teacher and mentor. I’ve also worked in Special Education for youth K - 12 as well as adults with disabilities. I found my true calling teaching upper elementary grades and am so excited to have your student in my class.
My wife is a graduate of BHS (and Blakely). My eldest daughter went to Ordway (K, 1st), Blakely (2 - 4), Sakai (5), Hyla (6 -8), BHS (9), and West Sound Academy (10 - 12). She is a graduate from Western Washington University. My son went to Ordway (K), Blakely (1 - 4), Sakai (5), Hyla (6-8) and BHS (9 -12). He received his AA from Olympic and is working on becoming a music teacher at Western Washington. My youngest daughter is a 5th grader at Sakai. In my free time I enjoy working out, reading, traveling, grilling, the SEAHAWKS, and spending time with my family and dogs and cats.
I’m looking forward to meeting you and working together to make this a wonderful and successful year.
